A costume of the Tortoise shell butterfly made out of recycled fabrics and objects. The straps are made out of an old rucksack and the wings are held in position with old plastic hangers. This project included lots of research into construction and carnival costumes and consists of wings and a fully bones corset made to fit the model. The concept of this project is to raise awareness of insect decline and the 6th mass extinction. The small tortoise shell butterfly is an English species that has significantly been in decline since the 1970’s.
